Wilfred Ndidi, who captains Nigeria's national football team, is in mourning after the loss of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died due to a car accident in Delta State.
The unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, in Umunede, where the retired military officer succumbed to injuries after being swiftly transported to a hospital in Agbor, Delta State.
In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Ndidi shared his sorrow, reminiscing about the last moments they spent together:
"You called me this morning with excitement in your voice, but deep down, you were saying goodbye.
What about the things we discussed? Does this mean we won’t talk again?
When I scored my first goal for the national team, I celebrated with the Papilo dance for you, and now you are no longer here."
Ndidi recently led Nigeria to a third-place finish in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Morocco, where he also marked his first international goal. He celebrated in a manner reminiscent of Nigerian football legend Kanu Nwankwo, whom his father greatly admired.
