On, the Swiss sportswear brand, together with Rolling Stones Africa, has opened the Voices in Motion Creative Summit, a week‑long gathering aimed at amplifying genuine African narratives across music, sport and culture. The summit convenes creators, industry leaders and policy makers to discuss how storytelling can drive economic growth and cultural influence.
The forum seeks to foster dialogue, spark collaboration and champion the power of authentic African voices in shaping global culture. Organisers argue that a unified platform is essential for turning creative talent into sustainable business opportunities.
Africa’s creative sector is currently estimated at US$60 billion and forecasts suggest it could reach US$200 billion by 2030. This rapid expansion is fueled by worldwide recognition of African music, fashion, sport and contemporary culture, which are increasingly dictating global trends and reshaping the continent’s image abroad.
Data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) show that the creative economy accounts for 5.6% of Kenya’s gross domestic product and serves as a major source of jobs for youth and women. The Kenyan government aims to lift that share to 10% through policy measures, institutional reforms such as the Creative Economy Bill and public‑private partnerships.
While the sector’s potential is evident, unlocking its full value requires platforms that elevate local stories, encourage cross‑border collaboration and connect African creators with global audiences.
Speaking at the summit, Navalayo Osembo, Director of Africa at On, said, “By bringing together diverse voices from across the industry, the initiative aims to encourage collaboration and support the continued growth and visibility of African creative talent. It is our goal to provide an environment where these conversations happen as we change the story of how Africa is told across the globe.”
As Africa’s creative landscape continues to evolve, the summit offers a chance to examine the challenges facing creators—from funding gaps to limited distribution channels—and to explore new pathways for innovation and growth.
Throughout the week, participants will engage in panels and workshops that examine how investment in the sector can translate artistic skill into lasting economic benefits. The program also facilitates networking, enabling creators to forge partnerships that may open doors to international markets.
By uniting a broad spectrum of industry stakeholders, Voices in Motion aspires to shape the future of African creativity and ensure that authentic storytelling remains at the heart of how the continent is experienced worldwide.
