A truck loaded with cement tragically ran over a teenage rider on Wednesday night in the area surrounding Terminus Market, located in the Jos North local government area of Plateau State.
Reports indicate that the incident took place around 9:30 PM as the vehicle was leaving Jos City.
The accident drew a crowd of concerned onlookers who rushed to the scene.
Eyewitness Musa Audu described how the young rider was trying to navigate on his Heelys and grabbed onto the trailer. Unfortunately, he was struck by one of the truck's tires, resulting in his death.
According to Audu, “the accident occurred when many people had already departed from the market. The victim was holding on to the moving vehicle when he was knocked down, and the truck subsequently rolled over him, killing him instantly.”
Nasiru Yahaya, who serves as the chairman of a Terminus market section, verified the account and noted that young Heelys riders often zoom around Murtala Muhammed Way, particularly during the night when pedestrian and vehicular traffic is low, allowing them ample space to ride.
He expressed sorrow over the tragic event, emphasizing that it was the first of its kind in this area involving a child.
