A separate incident on 13 October in Tafan, Barkin Ladi LGA saw 48‑year‑old James Joro Dung lose his life, with two of his cattle also shot dead, according to the same BYM statement.
**What security measures have been suggested?**
BYM appealed for heightened security in vulnerable communities, urging the deployment of more surveillance along known attack routes and better protection for farmers ahead of the harvest. The group praised the recent establishment of [Department of State Services](https://dss.gov.ng/) (DSS) camps in at‑risk areas, but called for additional funding, equipment and an expansion of their operational reach.
**What did the Mwaghavul Youth Movement report?**
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement (MYM) disclosed that on Monday night, 65‑year‑old Dauda Shamaki was fatally shot during an assault on the Nchiya community in Mangu LGA. Earlier that day, a security operative had been wounded near Aloghom community after cattle allegedly entered farmlands and destroyed crops.
According to MYM, gunmen broke into Nchiya and attacked two men stationed at a local vigilance point with firearms and machetes; one guard, Dauda Shamaki, died while his companion escaped with injuries. The statement noted that two of the attackers wore uniforms resembling those of security personnel, prompting calls for an urgent probe to verify their identities.
Both youth groups urged the Plateau State government and security agencies to investigate the incidents thoroughly, bring any perpetrators to justice, and advise residents to stay vigilant, report suspicious activity and refrain from retaliation or spreading unverified information.
