On Friday morning, a bus heading north from Lagos collided with a truck near the Ibrolak Filling Station on the Okolowo axis of Ilorin, Kwara State, resulting in a blaze that claimed the lives of at least three occupants.
The accident unfolded close to the Ibrolak Filling Station, around the Okolowo area, when a truck coming from the Shao direction, reportedly loaded with sack bags suspected to contain sawdust, attempted a U‑turn onto Okolowo road. The oncoming bus, en route to the northern part of the country, struck the truck, triggering a severe impact.
An eyewitness recounted that the truck driver was trying to reverse direction when the bus rammed into the side of the vehicle. He said, "The truck was making a U‑turn when the bus hit it, and the collision set the bus on fire instantly," describing the scene as chaotic and terrifying.
The force of the crash ignited a fire that quickly engulfed the bus, leaving three passengers burnt beyond recognition. The eyewitness added that the bus was carrying day‑old chicks, but it was unclear whether other passengers were present besides the three victims.
Members of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived at the site early on Friday to retrieve the remains of the deceased and secure the area. The Kwara State Sector Commander, Kabiru Babatunde Kazeem, confirmed the incident when contacted and pledged to release further details, although no additional information had been provided at the time of reporting.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision and the exact number of people on board the bus, while families of the victims await official confirmation of their loved ones' identities.
