President Bola Tinubu has once more met with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, amidst the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
Sources from the Presidency have confirmed that the recent meeting occurred on Sunday night at the President’s residence in Aso Villa, Abuja.
While specifics of the conversations remain undisclosed, this gathering follows a period of increased tensions surrounding issues of political leadership recognition in Rivers State. There are also ongoing attempts by some legislators to initiate impeachment procedures against Governor Fubara.
The latest intervention is reportedly a result of information that President Tinubu had advised Governor Fubara, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to acknowledge Wike—a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who currently holds a role in the APC-led Federal Government—as the political figurehead of the party in Rivers State.
This meeting marks at least the fourth occasion that President Tinubu has personally intervened to help resolve the protracted political deadlock between Fubara and Wike, highlighting the administration's concern over maintaining stability in the resource-rich state.
