President [Bola Tinubu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bola_Tinubu) has given his assent to legislation that transforms the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, into the [Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna](https://www.futvs.edu.ng), a step intended to strengthen technical and vocational education nationwide.
The announcement was made by Daniel Amos, the representative for Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on House Services. Amos said the conversion will broaden educational opportunities, promote skills acquisition, and aid national development. “Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” he remarked.
The bill, sponsored by [Speaker Tajudeen Abbas](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tajudeen_Abbas), repeals the act that created the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, and upgrades the institution to a university status. It also aligns with a similar bill that established the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies in Yaba, Lagos.
According to Amos, the new university will provide a platform for expanding degree programmes, enhancing research capacity, and equipping graduates with practical skills demanded by the labour market. He highlighted that the change will enable the institution to produce graduates ready to meet Nigeria’s technological and industrial needs.
The president’s assent is presented as evidence of his administration’s dedication to educational reform and human‑capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Amos congratulated the people of Kaduna State, as well as the management, staff, and students of the former polytechnic, for this milestone.
He expressed optimism that the upgraded university will improve access to higher education, strengthen technical and vocational training in Kaduna and surrounding communities, and open up new academic and research opportunities.
