The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed the successful reactivation of the 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 1, which is now fully operational. This development was announced by the company in a recent statement.

The restoration of Line 1 was achieved over the weekend following comprehensive repair work carried out by TCN's engineering team, according to Ndidi Mbah, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at the company.

With the service of Line 1 now restored, there has been a substantial enhancement in the bulk power supply to Kaduna Electric, thereby alleviating previous power delivery challenges experienced in the Kaduna region.

TCN also indicated that repair operations are currently underway for the 330kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 2. The company anticipates completing these repairs in the near future, provided no unexpected issues arise. This will further bolster the network's redundancy and overall system dependability.

"TCN values the patience, understanding, and cooperation of its customers and stakeholders throughout this period. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a stable and efficient transmission service across the nation," the statement read.

In parallel efforts, the TCN's Kaduna Region has initiated a community sensitisation initiative aimed at curbing vandalism and preventing encroachments on transmission line Right-of-Way (RoW). This campaign involves a series of targeted engagements with traditional leaders throughout the month.

Nasir Fada, the General Manager (Transmission) for the Kaduna Region, headed the delegation during visits to critical locations, including the palaces of influential traditional rulers in the Mando and Rigasa communities. The primary objective of these visits was to strengthen partnerships with local communities and address the escalating safety risks posed by illegal constructions situated directly beneath high-voltage transmission lines.

During the sensitisation sessions, held first with the Sarkin Mando, Alhaji Sani Musa, and subsequently with the District Head of Rigasa Community, Aminu Idris, Fada voiced significant concerns regarding the escalating rate of encroachment within transmission corridors.

He stressed that the erection of residential buildings, commercial shops, and other structures directly beneath high-tension power lines creates severe health and safety hazards for residents, including the potential for fatal electrocution.

Fada issued a stern warning that individuals who intentionally trespass on designated RoW areas do so entirely at their own peril. He clarified that TCN would not assume liability for compensation in instances of electrical accidents, which could prove fatal should a line be damaged or cut.

Furthermore, Fada highlighted the wider repercussions of vandalism and RoW violations, explaining that such actions not only endanger human lives but also compromise the stability and reliability of bulk electricity distribution throughout the region and the country at large.
