Woman accuses husband and his kin of repeatedly trying to evict her from marital home

A Nigerian woman identified as Mmili Doro Edoo says her husband, his kinsmen and the daughters of his kindred forced her out of their house on 18 October 2026, repeating a similar eviction attempt that occurred in 2021.

A Nigerian woman who posts on Facebook as Mmili Doro Edoo alleges that her husband, his [umunna](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umunna) and the [umuada](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umuada) of his village stormed her home on 18 October 2026 in an effort to evict her from their matrimonial house.

The episode mirrors a prior incident in 2021 when the same village’s umunna reportedly came to her residence while she was pregnant with her second child, also demanding that she leave. In both cases the woman claims her husband orchestrated the actions and questions why he has not simply divorced her. She posted on Facebook, “Why not send me out of your house the same way you married me, instead of subjecting me to ridicule?”

**What happened in 2021?**

In 2021, the woman said the umunna of Agbana village arrived at her marital home after a minor argument and attempted to throw her out, despite her being pregnant. She did not disclose any formal legal proceedings at that time.

**Why did the umuada intervene in 2026?**

According to her October 2026 Facebook update, the umuada of Agbana gathered at her compound with the intention of removing her. She asked, “What offense have I committed that warrants the umuada summoning me with the intention of throwing me out of my matrimonial home?”

**Her appeal to the public**

The woman warned readers not to wish such a marriage on their daughters, sisters or friends, stating, “All that glitters is not gold.” She added that she has refrained from responding to the accusations but plans to present evidence of her side of the story in the future.

The post, titled “Don’t wish your daughter my type of marriage,” was first published on the [Linda Ikeji Blog](https://www.lindaikejisblog.com) and has drawn attention to the role of traditional kinship groups in private marital disputes in Nigeria.

**Background context**

In many Igbo communities, the umunna (extended family) and umuada (women of the kindred) hold informal authority to mediate family matters, sometimes leading to interventions that affect spouses’ rights. Critics argue that such practices can undermine legal protections for women, especially when they are used to exert pressure rather than resolve conflicts.

The woman concluded her statement by saying she will soon provide factual evidence of the allegations against her, hoping her husband will understand the severity of what she has endured.
