Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso admitted his side lacked the necessary speed and patience to create enough goal-scoring chances, as Enzo Le Fée's strike secured a 1-0 victory for Sunderland at Stadium of Light.

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has opened up on the team's narrow defeat to Sunderland in Sunday's Premier League fixture, attributing the loss to insufficient creativity and patience from his side.

The Blues were held to a 1-0 loss by the hosts at Stadium of Light, with Enzo Le Fée scoring the winner late in the match. Alonso was forced to watch from the touchline as the result left Chelsea without a win in three Premier League matches.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Spaniard acknowledged that his squad failed to generate enough chances throughout the encounter. He pointed to a lack of pace and composure when playing against Sunderland's low defensive block.

"It's our mistake. We were missing a bit of speed on the ball, a bit of patience playing against a low block," Alonso said.

"We didn't create enough chances; we didn't have enough patience or creativity to create chances."

The defeat means Chelsea will travel to Leeds United for their next Premier League clash following the international break.
