As the third-largest smartphone producer worldwide, Xiaomi boasts a 14%Global share of the smartphone market as of the third quarter of 2025, according to Omdia. While the brand is primarily recognized for its smartphones, it has progressively transformed into a comprehensive consumer electronics leader. Currently, the company's operations span smartphones, electric vehicles, and various home appliances, all supported by its strategic “Human × Car × Home” smart ecosystem framework.
By September 2025, Xiaomi had amassed over 740 million active users globally. The REDMI lineup has significantly contributed to this extensive reach, with the series achieving a milestone of 1 billion smartphone shipments in 2023. Within the REDMI lineup, the REDMI Note Series has been a crucial factor in this success, with its total shipments surpassing 460 million units across more than 100 countries as of December 18, 2025. Fueled by this trajectory, Xiaomi plans to broaden its REDMI Note Series with the impending launch of the REDMI Note 15 Series this month.
Cynthia Chen, the Marketing Director for REDMI at Xiaomi's Global Marketing Department, remarked, “Over the past decade, the REDMI Note Series has gained the trust of consumers across the globe, owing to Xiaomi’s unwavering commitment to research and development. Since the series made its debut in Singapore 12 years ago, we have consistently enhanced performance, quality, and accessibility on a large scale. We are thrilled to bring the latest REDMI Note 15 Series to international audiences this month.”
The REDMI Note Series, crafted to strike a balance among performance, quality, and accessibility, has facilitated the widespread adoption of smartphones. The series first launched globally in Singapore in 2014, achieving sales of 5,000 units within the first minute. That same year, it stirred even greater anticipation in India, with initial stock selling out in just 8 seconds, illustrating the strong consumer demand. The initial REDMI Note model featured a 5.5-inch display and a battery capacity exceeding 3,000 mAh, establishing the groundwork for the series’ enduring path.
Global expansion saw notable acceleration between 2017 and 2018. In May 2017, the REDMI Note 4 Series spearheaded Xiaomi’s entry into Latin America through Mexico, followed by its debut in Spain in November 2017, marking the company's entry into the European market. To date, the REDMI Note Series is accessible in over 100 countries worldwide, supported by a comprehensive network that includes Xiaomi Stores, major e-commerce platforms, and carrier partnerships.
Beyond geographical expansion, the REDMI Note Series is focused on diminishing the divide between mid-range and premium smartphones. By incorporating high- end features into lower price points, the series embodies Xiaomi’s motto of “Innovation for Everyone,” transforming it into tangible products that reshape the smartphone landscape.
Camera technology exemplifies this evolution. The REDMI Note Series has frequently set new standards in imaging advancement, with the REDMI Note 12 Pro+ 5G showcasing a groundbreaking 200MP camera equipped with optical image stabilization, marking the first OIS camera in the series' history. Coupled with a flagship-level 1/1.4-inch sensor and 120W HyperCharge, this device introduced features that were traditionally exclusive to premium models.
Simultaneously, durability has progressed alongside performance improvements. The REDMI Note 7 Series presented Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 protection for both front and back panels—an impressive characteristic for mid-range devices back in 2019. The REDMI Note 10 Pro enhanced this by incorporating IP53 splash resistance and structural reinforcement. The REDMI Note 13 Pro+ 5G marked a considerable step forward as it became the inaugural global REDMI Note device to offer flagship-grade IP68 water and dust resistance, alongside Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® display protection. The REDMI Note 14 Pro+ 5G and REDMI Note 14 Pro 5G further progressed with enhanced protection featuring Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2 and IP68 certification.
The upcoming REDMI Note 15 Series, launching globally this month, represents a new milestone in the evolution of the lineup, reinforcing its standing through ongoing advancements in durability, performance, and the user experience. This new series introduces REDMI Titan Durability, promising long-lasting battery life, improved drop safety, and superior dust and water resistance across various models, reflecting a dedication to everyday reliability.
The REDMI Note 15 Series will also narrow the gap between budget-friendly smartphones and premium devices by incorporating a wider range of flagship technologies, such as Silicon-Carbon Battery technology, the Xiaomi IceLoop cooling system, and numerous AI-enhanced features aimed at ensuring performance consistency and intelligent usage scenarios. The series is tailored to meet the diverse needs of an extensive global customer base.
At the pinnacle of the lineup, the REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G showcases the series' most advanced hardware configuration to date, featuring an innovative 200MP ultra-high-definition camera powered by a globally debuting HPE sensor. It also provides comprehensive IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K dust and water resistance and holds an SGS 5-star Premium Performance Certification, highlighting the series' consistent mission to elevate smartphone standards.
This continuous advancement across the REDMI Note Series is fueled by Xiaomi's long-term dedication to research and development. The series consistently introduces cutting-edge technologies at accessible price points, supported by robust investment in fundamental technologies, engineering, and manufacturing capabilities. As outlined in its earnings report, Xiaomi invested RMB 23.5 billion (approximately USD 3.3 billion) in R&D; during the first three quarters of 2025, with plans to boost this investment to RMB 40 billion (approx. USD 5.7 billion) in 2026.
This investment level is evident in Xiaomi’s extensive global research presence, which encompasses over 730 laboratories located in 11 cities globally. Complementing these R&D; capabilities is Xiaomi’s advanced in-house smart manufacturing infrastructure, including the Xiaomi EV Factory in Beijing, which became operational in 2023, and the Xiaomi Smart Home Appliance Factory in Wuhan, which began operations in October 2025. Furthermore, the Xiaomi Smart Factory in Beijing—Xiaomi's central hub for smartphone manufacturing and research—started operations in 2024, demonstrating the effectiveness of the company's advanced manufacturing processes, with finished smartphones produced every six seconds. Collectively, these facilities enhance Xiaomi’s capacity to scale innovation and maintain quality from development through to mass production.
With total shipments surpassing 460 million units, the REDMI Note Series exemplifies Xiaomi’s principle of “Innovation for Everyone,” delivering cutting-edge technology to consumers on a large scale. Reinforced by continuous R&D; investments and integrated manufacturing capabilities, the series keeps evolving and setting new benchmarks, with the launch of the REDMI Note 15 Series in Nigeria marking a significant milestone in this journey toward redefining high-performance smartphones for an accessible market.
