The Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Gubana, has revealed the driving forces behind the construction of 50 mosques and his involvement in the marriages of 10 orphaned individuals he personally mentored.
These humanitarian efforts are spearheaded by Gubana through his Gorbo Foundation, an organisation dedicated to providing support and education to orphans, women, and other disadvantaged members of the community.
During the inauguration of one of the newly built mosques at the palace of the Emir of Fune, the deputy governor shared with journalists that the primary aim of constructing these places of worship is to foster a stronger connection with God among the populace.
Gubana further elaborated on his role in supporting the marriages of the 10 female orphans, whom he had raised and educated, to their chosen partners.
He characterized these actions as acts of devotion and gratitude to the Almighty for elevating him from a modest background to his current esteemed position as deputy governor.
"We presently have in excess of 1,400 orphans under our care. We provide their education from primary through secondary school, and some have advanced to tertiary institutions. A number have completed their studies, found spouses, which led us to support their weddings," he stated.
He appealed to affluent individuals and political figures to extend their assistance to orphans and to invest in projects that enhance both the spiritual and material welfare of the people.
Professor Ibrahim Maqari, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque in Abuja, lauded the deputy governor for his benevolent actions. However, he advised Gubana to also provide start-up capital to the newly married orphans, enabling them to establish small businesses in their marital homes.
