The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old individual, Aliyu Yarima, in connection with the alleged drugging and assault of a 16-year-old girl.
According to a statement released on Monday, January 26, 2026, by the police spokesperson, SP Abdulkarim Dungus, this incident marks another case of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) associated with sexual assault and drug use leading to the suspect's apprehension.
The statement indicated that on January 26, 2026, around 12:30 PM, police officers from the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters responded to a distress report which led to the arrest of Aliyu Yarima from Potiskum Local Government Area.
During initial investigations, it was revealed that on January 16, 2026, at approximately 10:00 AM, Yarima allegedly enticed a 16-year-old girl from Babbangida town and offered her a soft drink laced with illicit drugs, rendering her incapacitated.
Following this, he reportedly transported her in his vehicle to his home in Babbangida, where the alleged assault took place.
The victim sustained serious internal injuries from the attack and was unable to report the crime immediately due to her deteriorating health condition.
The police acted swiftly upon receiving the report, transporting the victim to General Hospital, Babbangida, for a medical assessment where the assault was confirmed.
The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, has condemned the incident, instructing a comprehensive and discreet investigation to ensure that justice is achieved. He reiterated the police's dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and encouraged the public to report any incidents of sexual abuse or other criminal acts to the nearest police station.
