The Zamfara State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Board and UNICEF, has established a State Aid Diversion Committee focused on safeguarding nutrition supplies.
This committee's primary responsibility is to prevent, identify, and investigate the misappropriation of essential resources intended for women and children in need.
Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, the Commissioner for Health, emphasized the significance of these resources for the survival of children suffering from malnutrition during the committee's inauguration.
"The diversion of these supplies undermines public trust and endangers lives," she remarked.
Suleiman Isah, the Public Relations Officer for the ministry, stated that the committee includes representatives from the police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and various relevant ministries to uphold transparency and accountability.
The Permanent Secretary, Rilwanu Musa Zurmi, has urged committee members to carry out their responsibilities with diligence.
Additionally, the Director of Nutrition, Abdulrazak Bashar, reported that the state warehouse currently contains 43,800 units of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), 37,000 units of Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS), and 3,700 various other supplies.
He further disclosed that the state has secured N1.6 billion in matching and counterpart funding for the fight against malnutrition.
The committee is expected to perform spot checks, monitor resource transportation, and review feedback, while submitting quarterly reports to the State Executive Council.
