The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that its key presidential candidates, including Peter Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex- Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, are collaborating with a shared objective: to inhibit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) from securing victory in the 2027 general elections.

This declaration coincided with the introduction of the 1ADC movement, aimed at consolidating members and supporters from various ages, backgrounds, and political views as the party gears up to contest against the incumbent administration in the next presidential election.

This initiative marks a proactive attempt by opposition leaders to unify under a single banner in anticipation of the 2027 election, which is already expected to be a significant contest involving Tinubu and the APC.

During the launch of the initiative, Lauretta Onochie, National Coordinator of the 1ADC Movement, and Ralphs Nwosu, the former ADC National Chairman, addressed the audience.

“We are here to announce to the world, the state, and our political leaders that we have united under one ADC,” Onochie stated.

She emphasized that this platform will facilitate collaboration among the supporters of Obi, Atiku, and Amaechi, enabling them to collectively face the APC in the upcoming election.

“Given the pressing question from Nigerians about the possibility of political party unity, today we affirm that it is achievable, and we are leading the way,” she added.

Onochie recognized that while disagreements can occur within political movements, it is essential for the party's collective aim to take precedence over personal agendas.

“We will unify after the primaries, heal any divisions, and we will not tolerate activities against our party. We will reach out to the grassroots, the impoverished, and the youth. We aspire to be an inclusive party, strong, disciplined, and united,” she assured.

She further noted that the movement was established to lessen friction and divisions among party leaders and aspirants while galvanizing support nationwide in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Ralphs Nwosu, the former ADC National Chairman, indicated that adopting the party as a coalition platform was a strategic move to empower Nigerians to reclaim their nation.

“We emphasize that we are done with complaints. It’s not about who occupies the positions of national chairman or national secretary. The ADC leadership has been intentional in their approach. They aim for the citizens of Nigeria to take ownership of the party,” Nwosu remarked.

He called on Nigerians to engage actively to avert the country's decline into further turmoil following the 2027 elections.

Nwosu also praised the ADC's National Chairman, David Mark, describing him as a “military tactician” who will not yield to any political adversary.

He noted that the party's digital membership registration initiative has generated substantial excitement across the nation.

Nwosu concluded that the ADC is evolving beyond a mere politicians’ party into a citizens’ platform dedicated to fostering greater harmony within Nigeria's political landscape.
