A young woman, 23-year-old Tannu Singh, allegedly took her life after being deeply hurt by an insulting remark made by her husband in front of her sister, according to police reports.

The tragic event transpired at her home in the Takrohi area of Indiranagar last Wednesday, as reported by the Times of India.

It is reported that Tannu decided to take this drastic step after her husband jokingly referred to her as a “monkey,” an incident that left her feeling deeply upset.

Tannu had been married to Rahul Srivastava, a Takrohi resident, for around four years, following a relationship built on love.

Rahul, who drives an auto-rickshaw, and Tannu were living together in Indiranagar where she was pursuing her modeling career.

According to the husband, the unfortunate incident happened on Wednesday afternoon when he, Tannu, her sister Anjali, and their son Abhay were all at their residence.

During a playful exchange, Rahul and Anjali reportedly mocked Tannu, leading to the derogatory remark that caused her emotional distress.

After the comment, Tannu left the room silently. Rahul then went out to get food, and upon his return, he asked Anjali to call for Tannu, only to find the door locked.

Despite numerous calls, there was no answer. Anjali peered through the window and discovered Tannu hanging from the ceiling.

In shock, Anjali called for help, prompting Rahul and nearby residents to rush to assist.

With the help of the locals, Tannu was removed from the noose and transported to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where she was unfortunately pronounced dead upon arrival.

The post-mortem report confirmed that asphyxiation due to hanging was the cause of death.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ghazipur, Anindya Vikram Singh, stated that they were not initially informed about the suicide at the police station, but learned of it through community members.

He mentioned that further actions would be initiated after reviewing the post- mortem findings and taking statements from family members involved.
