The Abia State Police Command has presented 21 cheques totalling N9,054,644.57 to families of deceased officers under the Group Life Assurance and Family Welfare Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force. The cheques were handed over to the beneficiaries at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia on Friday by the Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Wilfred, who also extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers.
Presenting the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, CP Wilfred acknowledged that no compensation or insurance could ever replace their loved ones, but described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to the welfare of families left behind by officers who paid the supreme price in the service of the nation.
He stated that the financial benefits represented the Force's institutional commitment to supporting the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
The Commissioner encouraged the beneficiaries to view the payment as recognition of the sacrifices made by their loved ones, assuring them that the Police Force remained deeply conscious of its responsibility towards their welfare.
He prayed that God would grant the families the strength to bear their losses and grant the deceased officers eternal rest.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ifeanyi Ezindu, a member of the family of late Inspector Ezindu Egege, expressed heartfelt appreciation to both the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police Force for the financial support. He noted that while the money could never replace the love and companionship of their deceased relative, the gesture was deeply appreciated by the family.
Also speaking in tears, Mrs Onyebuchi Gloria Gift, wife of late Inspector Onyebbuchi Henry Emeka, said the financial benefit would go a long way in supporting her and her children despite the irreplaceable loss of her husband. She equally commended the Abia State Police Command for remembering the families of deceased officers and providing meaningful support during their time of need.
