The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has launched a program offering complimentary health screenings for Nollywood actors residing in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the initiative is part of the 2026 annual 'AGN Health Campaign and Walk For Life', which took place recently in Abuja.
Participants were able to avail themselves of free screenings for various health conditions including blood sugar levels, hypertension, malaria, hepatitis B and C, as well as HIV/AIDS. Additionally, free eye examinations were provided, along with glasses and medications from health professionals.
In an interview with NAN during the event, Salma Aminu, the FCT Mayor of AGN, encouraged actors and other members of the industry to prioritize their health to prevent potential health crises. Aminu, who hosted the event, praised the actors who participated, noting that they are now more conscious of the importance of taking care of their health.
"This initiative is aimed at raising awareness among actors about the significance of health. We believe that establishing such events annually will prompt members to regularly undergo health check-ups," she stated.
Earlier, Abubakar Yakubu, the National President of AGN, remarked that the demanding nature of filmmaking often leaves industry members, particularly actors, with little to no time to focus on their health and well-being.
