The presidential candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has remarked that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s rise to power is not a fortune but rather a difficult lesson intended for Nigerians.

At a Ramadan Iftar hosted by the AAFAQ Foundation in Kano on Saturday, Adebayo recalled his previous campaign in Kano four years ago, stating that he recognized a divine message from God aimed at educating the Nigerian populace. 'Until we grasp that lesson, there is little the world can offer us; God does not err,' he expressed.

Adebayo urged that Nigerians should not interpret Tinubu’s presidency as a sign of divine goodwill but as an urgent reminder to pursue justice and to reject divides within society.

"It is preferable to live in a resource-limited country that upholds justice than to dwell in a land wealthy in resources but rife with injustice," he added.

Regarding the controversial Muslim–Muslim ticket, Adebayo criticized the notion, predicting that many would realize its shortcomings eventually. He indicated that during his previous visit to Kano, the idea of such tickets elicited smiles, but he cautioned that time would reveal the futility of seeking two Muslims for leadership positions, where even one might not be obtainable.

He further condemned the ongoing global conflicts, particularly the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the need for protection of innocents during the holy month. 'This is not a time for individuals to conspire to cause harm to those simply observing a sacred period,' he stated, urging Nigerian leaders to denounce both local and international injustices.

Dr. Abdulmutallib Ahmad Muhammad, the National Coordinator of AAFAQ, noted that Adebayo was invited because of shared ideals centered on promoting effective leadership. He shared that the foundation, composed of Islamic leaders, aims to transform Nigerian politics by supporting credible candidates and has encouraged its members to join the SDP.

Earlier, Adebayo extended his condolences to former Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, at his home, following the passing of his elder brother, Dahiru Shekarau. Adebayo acknowledged Shekarau as a devoted elder brother and an ally of the SDP, highlighting his patriotic spirit and righteousness.

In response, Shekarau expressed gratitude for Adebayo’s visit, remarking that it symbolized true kinship beyond political affiliations. 'This is the culture we aspire to promote in Nigeria; it transcends political parties, focusing instead on our relationships and shared commitment to serve humanity,' he concluded.
