The BTO For PBAT ’27 Support Group, led by Director‑General Adojutelegan Gideon, argues that the Nigerian presidency should stay in the South until 2031 to promote equity, national cohesion and democratic stability ahead of the 2027 elections. The group calls for political maturity and inclusive arrangements to strengthen public confidence in the electoral system.

The BTO For PBAT ’27 Support Group, headed by Director‑General Adojutelegan Gideon, has called for the Nigerian presidency to remain in the South until 2031, arguing that the arrangement would reinforce national unity, democratic stability and equitable representation ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement released in Akure, Adojutelegan noted that while the Nigerian Constitution does not explicitly mandate power rotation, the practice has historically helped preserve cohesion among the six geopolitical zones. He urged political actors to handle the issue with maturity and a focus on federation stability.

The group, operating under the guidance of the Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji‑Ojo, argues that equitable political arrangements are vital for mutual trust and deepening democracy. It views the return of the presidency to the South in 2023 as a pivotal moment that should be extended to complete an eight‑year term by 2031.

“The position of BTO For PBAT ’27 is clear and unequivocal: the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should remain in the South until 2031,” the Director‑General said. He added that the stance is rooted in “equity, fairness, justice and the need to sustain mutual understanding among the various geopolitical zones.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took office on 29 May 2023. The group believes that allowing the South to finish an eight‑year tenure, subject to the electorate’s choice in 2027, would reinforce fairness and political accommodation.

What does the group propose for the 2027 elections?

The organisation plans to mobilise supporters across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas, 203 wards and 3,933 polling units. It will focus on voter education, stakeholder consultations and peaceful participation, while pledging backing to all APC candidates in the state.

How does the group view national stability?

Adojutelegan emphasized that the presidency is a national institution belonging to all Nigerians and that political stability improves when every region feels its aspirations are respected. He called on leaders to place the collective interest above narrow sectional concerns, noting that democracy thrives on fairness, mutual respect and the sovereign will of the electorate.

The group urged continuous dialogue on power rotation, inclusiveness and democratic stability, warning that unresolved disputes could jeopardise peaceful coexistence and credible elections. It reiterated that its call for a southern presidency until 2031 reflects a commitment to political balance, democratic continuity and a more united, prosperous federation.
