During a townhall meeting in Nasarawa State, Nigerian Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi declared that his campaign would counter electoral malpractice in the 2027 general elections. He also challenged the current administration over fuel subsidy revenues and foreign travels.

Peter Obi, the standard-bearer for the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), declared during a townhall meeting in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State that his movement would forcefully resist perpetrators of electoral fraud during the upcoming 2027 general elections. Addressing supporters, the former governor of Anambra State emphasized that his administration would enforce strict adherence to the rule of law without exception.

Elaborating on his strategy to safeguard the democratic process, Obi asserted that his camp would adopt defensive measures against ballot tampering. "Let me assure you, number one, this coming election, we will rig those who rig it," he stated. He further noted that under his leadership, accountability would apply universally, stressing that nobody would be positioned above legal frameworks or allowed to act with impunity. Furthermore, he committed to reinforcing democratic institutions to permanently deter electoral interference.

Shifting focus to national economic policies, the NDC candidate addressed the management of petroleum resources, arguing that the primary challenge of the subsidy regime stemmed from systemic corruption rather than the framework itself. Consequently, he challenged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to render a comprehensive account of financial accruals realized from the cessation of the fuel subsidy since May 29, 2023. Additionally, Obi criticized the frequency of the incumbent president's international journeys, claiming it exceeded historical precedents for Nigerian leaders.

Campaigning alongside his running mate and former Kano State governor, Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, Obi outlined a governance agenda centered on educational reform, youth empowerment, and infrastructural development. He assured the electorate that education would serve as a catalyst for national advancement, with targeted investments in accessibility and practical skill acquisition. Additionally, he promised an inclusive administration dedicated to integrating persons with disabilities into mainstream governance and economic spheres while upgrading basic public amenities to elevate living standards.

Earlier in the proceedings, the Nasarawa State Chairman of the NDC, Dogo Shammah, received the visiting dignitaries and party leaders. Shammah commended the massive turnout of supporters, characterizing the engagement as a vital platform for articulating the party's strategic vision. He concluded by urging party faithful to maintain solidarity and unwavering dedication as preparations ramp up for future political contests.
