Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has elevated Aniefiok Johnson to the position of chief of staff, with the appointment taking effect immediately as the administration approaches the conclusion of its first term.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has named Aniefiok Johnson as his new chief of staff, filling the critical advisory role with less than a year remaining in his initial four-year mandate. The announcement was made public through an official declaration issued on Friday by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah.

Mr Johnson steps into his new responsibilities with immediate effect, transitioning from his former duties as the governor's executive assistant and chief delivery advisor. According to the state government's statement, his selection reflects his exemplary dedication, reliability, and steadfast contribution to the realization of the current administration's development blueprint, commonly known as the Arise Agenda.

What is Aniefiok Johnson's professional background?

Before taking on state-level assignments in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Johnson accumulated over thirty years of experience spanning international diplomacy and senior management positions within the United Nations. His international career includes serving as a director-level chief of staff within the Office of the United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region based in Nairobi, Kenya.

His extensive diplomatic service record features key deployments with the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur, the joint mediation support team in Doha, Qatar, and Nigeria's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York City. Additionally, he completed diplomatic postings involving German and Caribbean missions.

How did he transition into Nigerian public service?

During a career break from international organizations, Mr Johnson functioned as senior special assistant to the president of Nigeria on special projects, where he managed federal initiatives concerning infrastructure and power development. Locally, he coordinated policy implementation for Governor Eno's administration and directed the state's power sector reform committee.

Academically, Mr Johnson holds a degree in Political Science alongside a Master of Arts in International Relations from Dublin City University in Ireland. This latest administrative shakeup positions his office to centrally coordinate government affairs and policy delivery as the state executive nears the end of its first term in office.
