Amazon has revealed intentions to lay off 16,000 employees across the globe as part of an extensive restructuring initiative, following earlier announcements related to job cuts made in October.
Initially, the tech powerhouse had projected a reduction of around 14,000 jobs, but this new pronouncement increases the number of job losses as Amazon seeks to optimize its operations in light of slower growth rates and rising expenses.
The company's intention behind these layoffs is to simplify its organizational structure and enhance operational effectiveness. Senior Vice President Beth Galetti emphasized that this strategy is designed to "reduce layers, increase ownership, and eliminate bureaucracy" among its teams.
These job reductions are anticipated to impact various divisions worldwide, contributing to a trend of layoffs that has affected the technology sector as businesses adapt to a shifting economic landscape.
