Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has declared that terrorists and violent extremists will not find refuge within Nigeria, stating that the time for merely reacting to threats has ended.
He called upon the troops from the 4 Special Forces Command to elevate their operations and ensure that they effectively counter terrorism and insurgency across the country.
This directive was issued during his first operational inspection at the Command located in Doma, Nasarawa State.
Shaibu noted that the Nigerian Army Special Forces play a pivotal role in the ongoing battle to dismantle and neutralize criminal groups that pose a danger to national security.
While addressing the personnel of the 4 Special Forces Command and the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Doma, he stressed the importance of conducting precision and intelligence-driven operations to maintain control over the operational landscape.
Colonel Apollonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, relayed that the COAS encouraged the troops to stay ahead of the curve, remain flexible, and focused on their missions, emphasizing that the changing security environment necessitates quick actions, unexpected maneuvers, and high combat readiness.
Prior to his address, the COAS received comprehensive briefings regarding operations from Major General Olurotimi Azubuike Awolo, the Commander of 4 Special Forces Command, and Brigadier General Umar Faruk Abubakar, the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Special Forces School.
He conveyed his approval of the operational progress and training standards, greenlighting the immediate construction of additional housing units and essential facilities to bolster training, operational effectiveness, and the welfare of the troops.
Shaibu also reassured both officers and soldiers that their wellbeing, along with that of their families, is a top priority.
He reiterated that a well-supported and professionally competent force is vital for ensuring sustained operational success, committing to continued investments in training, logistics, and modern combat equipment to guarantee that the Special Forces maintain an edge over their adversaries.
In a gesture reflecting corporate social responsibility, the COAS and senior staff participated in planting trees within the cantonment, highlighting the Nigerian Army's dedication to sustainable development alongside its operational commitments.
