Confederation of African Football President Dr Patrice Motsepe has lauded Nigeria's U-17 women's team for reaching the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final in Morocco. The Flamingos secured their historic title match appearance by defeating Brazil 3-1.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, following their qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

Motsepe stated that the Flamingos had brought pride to Africa and CAF by advancing to the final, characterizing the accomplishment as a monumental breakthrough for both Nigerian and continental football.

Nigeria booked their spot in the championship match after overcoming Brazil with a 3-1 victory in Wednesday’s semi-final encounter, marking the first time an African nation has reached the ultimate stage of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos are scheduled to square off against Japan in the title decider on Saturday, November 7, 2026, kicking off at 18:30 local time in Rabat, Morocco.

Motsepe is anticipated to be present in Rabat to witness the final fixture as Nigeria pursues its maiden triumph in the global tournament.

Prior to this breakthrough by Nigeria, Ghana achieved a third-place finish at the 2012 tournament, while the Flamingos also secured bronze in the 2022 edition. Both African representatives earned their podium finishes by overcoming Germany in their respective third-place playoffs.
