Engr. Jennifer Adighije, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), has stated that the 570 MW Alaoji power plant is on track for completion in the third quarter of 2027.

During a recent inspection of the facility alongside members of the House of Representatives Committee on Power in Abia State, Adighije informed the lawmakers that the company is taking necessary measures to rectify past delays and has established a clear plan for the project's recovery.

She noted that the management had insisted the contractor provide a revised plan aimed at ensuring the project is completed on schedule.

"We have previously encountered some setbacks, which necessitated the contractor to create a recovery plan, and they have complied," Adighije remarked.

She emphasized that the originally projected completion date had to be revised based on the latest work schedule.

"Initially, we expected to finish the project by the end of this year, but that is no longer feasible. With the new schedule in place, we are aiming for a completion date in the third quarter of 2027. Our management is dedicated to offering all essential engineering support, which has contributed to our progress," she explained.

On the financial aspect, she affirmed their commitment to honoring their obligations to the contractor, declaring, "There are no outstanding payments owed to the contractor, so currently, there should be no anticipations of further delays."

Victor Nwokolo, the committee chairman, acknowledged the noticeable efforts made by NDPHC to recover essential equipment and realign the project for successful completion.

He highlighted that many infrastructure endeavors within the power sector have faced setbacks due to delays in the clearance of imported equipment at Nigerian ports, particularly those related to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Nwokolo observed that the situation regarding the NDPHC project seems to be progressing differently.
