The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), located in Abuja, has ordered the employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to immediately cease their ongoing strike activities.

In a ruling delivered on Tuesday by Justice Emmanuel Subilim, the court determined that while the issue presented does qualify as a trade dispute, the legal entitlement of workers to initiate industrial action is not without limitations.

Justice Subilim stated that once a labor-related dispute is brought before the National Industrial Court, any industrial action linked to the case must halt until the court reaches a conclusive decision.

"An interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, preventing the claimants and their representatives from engaging in further industrial action against the claimant," the judge declared.

He further commented, "This order will remain effective until the conclusion of this case."

This ruling was made subsequent to a lawsuit initiated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration after employees under the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) began an indefinite strike last week, citing the administration's inability to meet long-standing labor and welfare requests.

The strike has caused significant disruptions in operations across essential government offices in Abuja, impacting public services within the Federal Capital Territory.

In light of the situation, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, sought a court injunction to limit the unions from continuing the industrial action.

The case, identified as NICN/ABJ/17/2026, was filed in the Abuja Division of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
