Dapo Abiodun Raises Alarm Over Reckless Truck Driving, Launches Investigation into Ota Tollgate Incident

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has expressed grave concern regarding the reckless driving tendencies of certain truck operators on the Sango–Ota route, after a disastrous accident in the Ota tollgate district claimed the lives of seven individuals.

The accident involved a trailer tanker believed to have experienced brake failure, leading to the deaths of six men and one woman. Additionally, two other individuals—a man and a woman—sustained serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. In total, nine people were affected by this unfortunate incident.

Labeling the occurrence as not only painful but intolerable, Governor Abiodun stated that the loss of innocent lives from avoidable negligence cannot be justified. He conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for their strength and solace in this trying time.

The governor has mandated an immediate review of the situation surrounding the incident, emphasizing that anyone found responsible should face the full consequences of the law.

He further urged for increased vigilance and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations by the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, as well as the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, in order to avert similar occurrences along this heavily trafficked route.

In related news, Lawal Adewale Wasiu, the Chairperson of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government, visited the site shortly after the accident, where he received updates from security personnel managing rescue and control operations.

The Chairperson expressed profound sadness over the calamity and repeated the importance of adhering strictly to traffic laws. He also warned against roadside trading and other hazardous activities that could endanger residents and commuters, assuring that the local council would collaborate with relevant agencies to enhance safety compliance in the area.

The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing road safety measures and ensuring the protection of lives and properties throughout the state.
