The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised passengers to report instances of reckless driving as an essential measure to reduce road accidents. This appeal was made by the Delta State Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, during a press briefing concerning the results of the command's Operation Zero Tolerance patrol.

Commander Alexander reported that there were ten fatalities resulting from road accidents in Delta State during the special patrol period, which took place from December 15, 2025, to January 15, 2026.

She noted that while ten lives were lost, this marks a 30 percent decrease compared to the previous year's special patrol period, where fifty-five people lost their lives.

Additionally, the command recorded a total of seventeen road accidents during this period, reflecting a 23 percent decline from the previous year’s data, according to Alexander.

She emphasized that six of these incidents were fatal, showing a 17 percent reduction, and the number of injuries fell to thirty-three, highlighting a significant improvement from the preceding operation. The implemented enforcement protocols led to approximately 1,230 arrests for various traffic violations.

Further, offenders were brought before mobile courts for immediate trial, reinforcing the command's commitment to zero tolerance for reckless driving. Four individuals were sent to the Ogwashi-Uku correctional facility due to various charges of reckless behavior.

The Sector Commander elaborated on 2025 statistics, showing that 143 road accidents occurred, which is a 6.71 percent rise from 2024, and the number of injuries also increased by 32 percent, totaling 449.

She stated that despite the increase in traffic and economic activity, maintaining a steady number of fatalities demonstrates the effectiveness of ongoing enforcement, emergency response efforts, and public awareness campaigns.

In a bid to enhance road safety, the command has formulated new strategies targeting improved driver conduct, including expanding public awareness, increasing collaboration with stakeholders, and enhancing enforcement and rescue operations.

Mrs. Alexander praised the dedication of the personnel and special marshals, calling for road users to comply with traffic regulations, avoid speeding and dangerous driving, ensure vehicles are roadworthy, and practice patience in congested areas.

She also urged passengers to actively report reckless driving and advised pedestrians to utilize designated crossings and remain vigilant at all times.
