Malam Kabiru Yusuf, the Chairman of Media Trust Group, emphasizes that the organization has created a solid institution meant to last beyond its original founders.
Yusuf made this statement during the company's shift into a new age of digital journalism, officially introducing its Digital Newsroom as part of its Project Evolution.
He hailed this progress as a significant achievement in the company’s 25-year history.
Reflecting on the evolving landscape of the journalism field, the Media Trust chairman expressed optimism regarding the influx of young talent into the newsroom.
"As I enter the newsroom and notice numerous new faces—many of whom I have not met, and whom may only know my name—I realize that our journey has reached a point where we should start stepping aside for the newer generation," Yusuf remarked.
He noted that this shift signals the institution’s growth and preparedness for what lies ahead.
"I am genuinely pleased to witness this transition, affirming that we have built an institution that will hopefully outlast us all, including the younger generation," he added.
Yusuf reminisced about the early days of the company, recalling that Daily Trust began in a rented space over two decades prior.
"Around 25 years ago, we started Daily Trust in a rented facility with aspirations of owning our own building. Look at us now," he noted.
Regarding the newly established Digital Newsroom, the chairman expressed initial curiosity about the integration of a fully digital operation, but he was pleasantly surprised by its execution.
“I was interested to see how the digital newsroom would be implemented, but it has been carried out effectively. I’m pleased to see all of you ready for work,” he commented.
Yusuf articulated the company’s ambition to become a truly global media entity.
“Our objective is to expand this organization. We aim for world-class standards. While many organizations may write lofty visions and missions, we genuinely mean it. If you observe our beginnings and our current position, it's clear that our journey will lead us to our desired destination,” he stated.
He encouraged the younger employees to embrace the future of the organization wholeheartedly.
“So I hope you, the youth, will undertake this task. You will notice that our workforce is evolving; we will see more young faces, and we are eager to visit occasionally to witness you in action,” Yusuf remarked.
