The Department of State Services (DSS) has initiated legal proceedings against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El‑Rufai, filing charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja. These charges are based on accusations of illegally intercepting the phone communications of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

According to court filings, El‑Rufai reportedly acknowledged his awareness of the interception during a live television appearance on ARISE television on February 13. Prosecutors contend that this action jeopardized public safety and national security, creating a climate of fear among citizens.

The DSS has presented a three-count charge, asserting that the former governor's conduct violates the Cybercrimes Amendment Act of 2024 and the Nigerian Communications Act of 2003.

El‑Rufai is accused not only of direct involvement in the alleged unlawful interception but also of failing to report individuals believed to be responsible for the act.
