From 5 November, MultiChoice Nigeria and its new parent Canal+ will simplify the DStv offering, limiting the line‑up to four distinct packages and setting the entry‑level price at ₦6,000 per month.
What are the four new bundles?
- Starter – ₦6,000 – Adds SuperSport Kickoff, which broadcasts the Premier League Match of the Week and selected Champions League fixtures, together with Africa Magic+.
- Select – ₦11,000 – Provides a mix of movie channels, local and international series, children’s programming and a selection of football and other sports.
- Sports – ₦21,000 – Includes every Premier League and Champions League match, plus WWE and UFC events, while retaining the general entertainment channels from the Select tier.
- Premium – roughly ₦44,000‑₦44,500 – Remains the top‑tier option, featuring Formula 1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis, major golf tournaments and international series on M‑Net.
How will current subscribers be affected?
MultiChoice assures that the transition incurs no additional charge. Existing plans will be mapped automatically: Access moves to Starter, Family to Select, Compact to Sports and Compact Plus to Premium. Customers who have prepaid for several months will retain their current package for the paid period.
What is the offer for new customers?
A decoder, full installation kit and one month of the entry‑level package will be available for a total of ₦15,000.
Why is the change being made now?
The company recorded a loss of 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025, attributing the decline to inflation‑driven pressure on household budgets and competition from streaming services. The same restructuring is being rolled out across Sub‑Saharan Africa, including Kenya, Ghana and Uganda, where the Premium tier is being renamed “Ultimate”; Nigeria will retain the Premium label.
What does leadership say?
“Our focus is to give subscribers better value,” said Kemi Omotosho, CEO of MultiChoice Nigeria.
Subscribers are advised to verify which new tier corresponds to their current plan before the 5 November deadline to ensure it still meets their viewing needs.
