Nasir El-Rufai, who previously held the office of governor in Kaduna State, has declared that his son, Bello El-Rufai, continues to be an active member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) purely out of personal conviction, even amidst his own critiques of the party.
Bello El-Rufai represents the Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly as a member of the House of Representatives.
El-Rufai made these remarks during a conversation with the BBC Hausa Service, shortly after he accused agents from the Department of State Services (DSS) of attempting to detain him upon his return to Nigeria from Egypt at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Addressing his son's political stance, the former governor, now affiliated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that Bello is mature enough to make his own political choices.
"My son Bello was elected under the APC banner, and it appears that his constituents are pleased with his performance. He is over 30 years old and can make his own decisions. Politics is fundamentally about individual preference," he expressed.
El-Rufai further emphasized that his son's continued affiliation with the APC does not contradict his own position of opposition towards the party.
"If he opts to stay with the APC without engaging in any improper actions, which aligns with the principles we have taught him, then Alhamdulillah," he added.
