The EMAC Cervical Cancer Foundation, in partnership with other organisations, has announced the successful completion of its 2026 #SMEARIT Campaign. This initiative, which ran from January 26th to February 4th, concluded with a significant presence on World Cancer Day. It successfully mobilised thousands of women and their supporters across Nigeria, creating a visual movement aimed at combating a highly preventable yet dangerous disease that affects women.

The #SMEARIT Campaign, a flagship project by the EMAC Cervical Cancer Foundation, which is the social impact division of ELOY and Exquisite Magazine, employs a distinctive advocacy tool: applying lipstick across the face. This striking visual acts as a catalyst for discussion, representing the Pap smear test and encouraging women to proactively manage their health without fear or shame.

During the campaign period, participants actively shared images and videos on social media, transforming their online presence into platforms for advocacy. These contributions underscored the vital importance of regular screenings, HPV vaccinations, and the life-saving impact of identifying the disease early.

Cervical cancer continues to pose a substantial health concern in Nigeria. However, with prompt medical intervention, it is largely preventable. The #SMEARIT movement strives to bridge the gap between accessible medical information and community action by facilitating conversations that are visual, straightforward, and urgent.

The campaign's reach in 2026 was significantly enhanced by the valuable contributions of media and advocacy partners, including BellaNaija and the Raising Women Initiative. Their collaborative efforts ensured that the message of prevention reached a broad spectrum of the population, from urban centres to local communities, thereby stimulating important discussions about proactive healthcare choices.

"Cervical cancer should not be a cause of death in 2026," stated the leadership of the EMAC Foundation. "Through #SMEARIT, we are committed not only to increasing awareness but also to fostering a culture of prevention. When a woman applies lipstick, she is making a public commitment to herself and her community that her health is a priority."
