Traders selling sachet water and ice blocks in the Kpeyegyi and Kurudu areas of the Federal Capital Territory are facing significant challenges due to unreliable electricity supply, which is jeopardizing their businesses.

The affected sellers reported to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that this ongoing issue has resulted in substantial price hikes for their products.

Mrs. Victoria Alizi, one of the traders, noted that the erratic power situation has raised operational costs, prompting an increase in the retail price of sachet water.

She explained that previously, a bag of sachet water was sold for N400, but she is now purchasing it at N500 and selling for N600 per bag.

Alizi expressed that profit margins have decreased significantly as customer patronage declines, leading many consumers to seek more affordable options.

She urged the relevant authorities to address the electricity supply issues to alleviate production difficulties, lower expenses, and enhance the livelihoods of those reliant on this trade.

Mr. Simon Boss, who produces ice blocks, indicated that his operations have been disrupted, forcing him to depend heavily on petrol and diesel generators.

Similarly, Mr. Jude Makera, a sachet water producer, revealed that recurrent power outages can halt production for extended periods—sometimes enduring hours, days, or even a full week—thereby diminishing output.
