A tragic fire incident occurred in Ibadan, resulting in the death of one person. This event took place on Tuesday, March 3, at Arapaja Bridge in the Kudeti area when a Lexus SUV turned over and went up in flames.
The Oyo State Fire Services Agency was alerted to the fire at precisely 3:44 p.m. by Mr. Lateef Jayeoba, who called to report the situation at the scene.
According to a statement issued by the agency, firefighters were quickly dispatched to the site under the leadership of an Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS).
Upon their arrival, the fire crew found a Lexus Jeep with the registration number KSF 297 JF, which had apparently lost control while being driven, rolled into a nearby drainage area, and subsequently caught fire.
The fire service reported that their personnel acted swiftly to extinguish the flames and prevent any damage to surrounding properties.
"Two male individuals were recovered from the scene, while one person survived and was handed over to the police prior to being transported to a hospital," the agency's statement read.
Initial assessments attributed the cause of the accident to reckless driving behaviors.
In light of the incident, the Special Adviser on Fire Reform to the Governor of Oyo State and Chairman of the Fire Services Agency, Hon. Dr. Moroof Akinwande, called on drivers to adhere strictly to road safety guidelines to avoid similar future accidents.
He also emphasized the necessity of equipping vehicles and homes with functional fire extinguishers to effectively address fire emergencies in their early stages.
