Federal Government Empowers Over 300 Ondo Residents With Clean Energy Kits

More than 300 residents across Ondo State have received locally produced solar home systems and clean cooking stoves under the National Sustainable Empowerment Programme. The initiative, led by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, aims to boost clean energy access, curb health hazards, and encourage indigenous technology.

More than 300 individuals residing in Ondo State have received locally produced solar home systems and clean cooking stoves through the Federal Government's National Sustainable Empowerment Programme. The distribution event, which catered to recipients from all three senatorial zones, took place at the Dr. Olusegun Mimiko Event Centre located in Akure, the state capital.

Who organized the empowerment event, and what was distributed?

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) spearheaded the distribution of the home solar kits and eco-friendly cooking stoves. According to federal officials, the primary objective is to enhance clean energy availability, lower domestic health hazards, champion home-grown technology, and bolster grassroots enterprises.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, noted that the scheme forms a core part of President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing heavily on financial self-sufficiency, domestic manufacturing, and youth-oriented growth.

What did the minister say about beneficiary selection and stipends?

Olawande clarified that the distribution process completely ignored political leanings, emphasizing that the administration aims to support ordinary citizens genuinely in need of assistance. Furthermore, he revealed that recipients would obtain financial stipends designed to help launch or scale up micro-enterprises, ensuring the longevity of the empowerment effort.

“Over 300 beneficiaries in Ondo State are receiving these items, irrespective of political affiliation,” Olawande stated during the programme. “This is not a political strategy but a demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his promises and making government interventions beneficial to ordinary Nigerians.”

How do the distributed items help households?

The minister pointed out that the clean cooking stoves are engineered to minimize health dangers linked to long-term exposure to firewood smoke, particularly safeguarding women and children. Meanwhile, the solar home systems are intended to guarantee steady electricity for students studying at night and small business operators trying to run their daily activities.

Olawande also mentioned that similar interventions had previously rolled out in states such as Kano, Katsina, Lagos, and Oyo, with Ondo being the latest addition to the nationwide rollout. Additionally, he disclosed plans to unveil the Nigeria Youth Academy on November 9, an initiative tailored toward innovation and entrepreneurship that will feature grants varying from N5 million to N20 million for brilliant young business founders.

What was the perspective of the NASENI leadership?

The Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Halilu, stressed that the agency remains committed to transforming research and development outputs into tangible goods that solve everyday challenges for citizens. He reiterated that promoting locally manufactured infrastructure helps stimulate employment and validates indigenous engineering capacities.

“Our clean cooking stoves make cooking healthier and more efficient, while the home solar systems help small businesses have electricity throughout the day and ensure that children can do their assignments even when there is no public power supply,” Halilu explained.

Halilu lauded the synergy between his agency and the Ministry of Youth Development, characterizing the collaboration as a vital milestone toward achieving long-term national development goals. He assured the public that additional empowerment campaigns are in the pipeline to elevate living standards and drive economic inclusion across the country.
