Popular Nigerian social media activist Martins Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan, has challenged David Ibiyeomie, the founder of Salvation Ministries, to place a curse on him, accusing the prominent cleric of employing religious manipulation and fear tactics to govern his congregation.
VDM's outburst came in direct response to statements reportedly made by Ibiyeomie, in which the minister asserted that individuals subjected to his curses would suffer permanent ruin. The activist strongly condemned these remarks, daring the religious leader to publicly name anyone who had suffered such a fate.
"All the social media people that you have cursed, call their names, I dare you. You are a liar," VDM stated during his video response.
What are the main issues raised by the activist?
Beyond the controversy surrounding curses, the social media figure criticised how certain religious leaders leverage perceived supernatural authority to influence vulnerable followers, noting that older generations, particularly mothers, have historically been targeted by such narratives. He also questioned the theological basis for threatening congregants with financial ruin or hardship over failure to pay tithes and offerings.
Citing scriptural teachings, VDM remarked, "The Bible say bless those who prosecute you, bless them and not curse. You people are not God."
Additionally, the activist challenged Ibiyeomie's past claims regarding financial contributions to God, specifically questioning a statement where the cleric reportedly mentioned giving one million dollars at a time when he allegedly did not own a home.
Concluding his reaction, VDM reiterated his defiance, labelling the clergyman a liar and repeating his challenge for the pastor to direct his alleged spiritual pronouncements at him.
