Forest Guard Detained for Suspected Filicide in Borno

A forest guard in the Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State has been taken into custody for allegedly killing his son.

The unfortunate incident transpired on February 13, 2026, around 5:40 p.m. at the RRR Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp located in Monguno.

According to reports, the case was reported to the Monguno Division at approximately 6:20 p.m. by Maidugu Mustapha from Gana Ali Ward. He claimed that Mohammed Ibrahim Angoli, a member of the Forest Guard, shot his 24-year- old son, Ajiya Mustapha, in the back using an AK-47 rifle, as noted by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Monguno led a team to the scene, where they took photographs and transported the victim to General Hospital, Monguno.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the medical staff declared the victim deceased. His body has since been transferred to the hospital's mortuary pending an autopsy.

The suspect has been arrested, and the firearm used in the crime has been secured as evidence.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri has initiated an inquiry into the occurrence.
