Dr. Gbenga Hashim, a presidential contender representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed that reconciliation among party members is still feasible following the recent National Convention in Abuja, which was influenced by a faction associated with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

In his comments regarding the current situation within the party and the outcomes of the convention, Hashim stated that the PDP must not overlook any significant faction within its ranks, warning that persistent divisions might undermine its role as a strong opposition.

"The need for reconciliation and unity remains unchanged," he asserted.

He further urged leaders from opposing factions to quickly initiate discussions, stressing the importance of aligning party structures with previously established agreements.

Hashim pointed out that ongoing legal matters at the Ibadan branch of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court offer legitimate options for resolving disputes, suggesting that a mutual consent judgment could be attainable if political compromises are made.

He also highlighted the necessity of maintaining the PDP's foundational ideals as a robust and inclusive party, calling on stakeholders to place unity above individual factional interests.

Hashim emphasized that reconciliation efforts should now center on addressing structural issues within the party, such as the presence of competing National Working Committees and conflicting state structures that have emerged from separate congresses.

The PDP has recently experienced significant internal conflicts, raising concerns about its unity and electoral viability.

Despite these challenges, Hashim remains hopeful that through sincere dialogue and political commitment, the party can overcome its current difficulties and restore internal harmony.
