The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has denounced what he describes as impunity and constitutional violations, asserting that the citizens of Osun will not submit to such actions.

Adeleke specifically criticized the unlawful appropriation of local government funds and breaches of local financial regulations in Osun.

During his speech at the launch of MINARET University in Ikirun on Thursday, he reflected on the political struggles witnessed during the first and second republics, asserting that the Osun populace is too educated to fall victim to oppression or deception.

He stated, "I want to take this moment to remind us of the political issues we encountered during the first and second republics. When darkness prevails, and brute force seeks to undermine legality, true patriots remain steadfast, standing firmly by the Constitution and their faith, akin to the Olumo rock."

Adeleke communicated that true leaders maintain their dignity and respond to adversity with strength. He quoted, "These patriots assert: this is a severe trial, but a testament to God’s presence, where the virtuous are shielded even during extreme challenges."

“We will not yield; we will not back down; we will advance because the law, the Constitution, the people, and God unite with us. We shall emerge victorious to God’s glory,” declared the governor.

He highlighted to an audience comprising scholars, as well as local and state officials, that the citizens of Osun, recognized as one of the most educated groups in Nigeria, are aware of their rights as guaranteed by the Constitution and their Creator.

Adeleke emphasized the significant role education plays in empowering the South West, marking it as the most literate region in Nigeria.

He remarked, "An enlightened society possesses the knowledge to be resilient, standing stronger than those who use force for survival. The late Chief Obafemi Awolowo envisioned the former western region as a beacon propelled forward through educational access."

He acknowledged the contributions of the Bola Ige administration, which expanded educational opportunities through its free education initiative. This legacy has been carried forward in the new Osun state, fostering an active citizenry capable of resisting tyranny and lawlessness.

“An informed citizenry cannot be misled; they recognize what good governance entails. They are not swayed by false narratives; they validate their assessments with facts. They can identify effective leaders and reject those who govern against the public interest,” the governor concluded.
