Governor Dauda Lawal has officially enacted a bill to establish the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology (ZIIT), aimed at enhancing digital innovation in the state.
Dr. Habib Gajam, the Executive Secretary of the Zamfara Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), characterized this move as a landmark achievement for technology and innovation in Zamfara.
He noted that this new legislation provides the essential legal and operational framework for the institute, which is expected to become a foundation for developing the next generation of tech professionals.
"This marks a truly significant moment for the future of technology and innovation. Zamfara is ready for digitalisation," Gajam stated.
According to him, the foundation of ZIIT symbolizes the state government's dedication to fostering a knowledge-driven economy, equipping youths with advanced digital skills, and positioning Zamfara as a center for technology and innovation in Northern Nigeria.
“With ZIIT, Zamfara will now play an essential role in cultivating highly skilled professionals in areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence, and other emerging tech fields,” he expressed.
Gajam also indicated that this institute would benefit not only Zamfara but the North-west region as well as Northern Nigeria overall, contributing positively to the wider Nigerian digital ecosystem.
"This milestone reinforces our collective vision of leveraging technology for economic growth, innovation, and inclusive development," he added.
He praised Governor Lawal for what he termed visionary leadership and successful policy execution.
“We congratulate His Excellency for this visionary leadership and commend all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to turn this dream into reality,” he concluded.
