Gunmen Attack Nasarawa Community, Leaving Two Dead and One Injured

A recent attack in Tse-Umelai, a Tiv community in Nasarawa State, has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to one woman. The incident occurred while locals were engaged in hunting and fishing.

An armed assault in Tse-Umelai, located within the Kwara District of the Keana Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, has led to the deaths of two individuals with several others reported missing.

The tragic event took place on January 26 at approximately 4:00 p.m., while a group of residents was occupied with fishing and hunting activities.

Reports indicate that unidentified gunmen opened fire on the unsuspecting victims. Among those attacked was one Thaddeus Tsehemba, aged 60, who was shot near the stream, with other fishermen suffering machete injuries, prompting a mass exodus for safety.

Helen Akaa, a 45-year-old woman, was confirmed to have suffered machete wounds and was initially treated at the Primary Health Care center in Kadarko before being transferred to a more advanced facility in Lafia.

In response to the violence, troops from the Nigerian Army, along with other security agencies, promptly arrived at the site to assess the situation.

Out of the four people initially reported as missing, two have been confirmed dead: 60-year-old Filomina Ubuga and 45-year-old Fidelis Yina.

Thaddeus Tsehemba and 70-year-old Clement Akaa are still unaccounted for as search operations continue vigorously.

The bodies of the deceased have been retrieved and placed in the mortuary at the Kadarko Primary Health Care facility.

Authorities stated that investigations are underway to locate the missing individuals while also seeking to apprehend the armed assailants responsible for this heinous act.
