The Kano State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has detained an individual suspected of stealing motorcycles while masquerading as a corps officer in various locations within the state.

The public relations officer for the sector, Abdullahi Labaran, announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, that the suspect, named Abdullahi Ali and hailing from Bela village in the Ungoggo Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested by the command's Intelligence Unit after receiving numerous complaints from residents.

Labaran reported that the complaints were centered on the actions of individuals posing as FRSC staff, who allegedly seized motorcycles unlawfully under the guise of conducting patrols.

In the statement, the FRSC Kano State Sector Command informed the public about the arrest of Abdullahi Ali from Bela Village in the Ungogo Local Government area, describing him as a suspected motorcycle thief who was pretending to be an FRSC official to carry out criminal acts in Kano State.

“The arrest occurred on January 19, 2025, following numerous complaints from citizens across various areas in Kano State concerning the activities of criminals impersonating FRSC personnel to illegally seize motorcycles under the pretense of patrol operations,” the statement detailed.

“Responding to credible intelligence, members of the FRSC Intelligence Unit apprehended the suspect, a resident of Bela Village in Ungogo Local Government Area, in connection with the alleged crimes.

Initial investigations indicated that the suspect forcibly took possession of motorcycles while pretending to be a member of the FRSC, with a number of the seized motorcycles suspected to have been stolen later on.

During the arrest, a fraudulent driver’s license was found in his possession, further confirming his usage of a false identity to facilitate illegal activities.

The suspect was subsequently transferred to the Gwale Divisional Police Station, Kano, for additional investigations and prosecution as per legal requirements.

The FRSC emphatically declared that the suspect is not affiliated with the Corps and urged the public to stay alert, reporting any suspicious individuals who claim to be law enforcement officers.

Communities are also advised to verify the identities of officials before complying with any such law enforcement activities.

"The Corps is dedicated to safeguarding lives and properties and will persist in working with other security agencies to eliminate criminal elements from the state.”
