Indian law enforcement agencies have successfully seized over 20,000 pirated books in a large-scale operation targeting an extensive distribution network, according to reports from various publishers.
This operation, executed on March 15, involved coordinated efforts between law enforcement officers and leading publishing firms such as Penguin Random House India, Hay House, and Simon & Schuster India.
Publishers reported that the raids revealed a "sophisticated and expansive distribution network" that included numerous warehouses and an illegal printing facility.
Penguin Random House stated that the nearly 24-hour operation focused on multiple locations, including warehouses and an illicit printing press, indicating that it inflicted a significant setback on a well-established piracy network. This operation was described as one of the largest recent confiscations of pirated literature in the nation's capital.
Among the array of seized titles were works from renowned authors such as Arundhati Roy, Haruki Murakami, Yuval Noah Harari, Daniel Kahneman, Simon Sinek, and James Clear. This incident underscores the pervasive issue of book piracy within India, where a strong appetite for literary works continues to drive illegal reproduction and distribution efforts.
