A newborn infant has been rescued from an uncompleted building in the Unguwar Abattoir neighborhood of Gwagwalada Area Council, within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
A local resident, Joshua Musa, shared that the baby was found early on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, around 6:22 am by a neighbour. The infant was reportedly wrapped in a piece of cloth and is believed to have been left behind by an unidentified woman.
Musa explained that the resident who discovered the baby had entered the unfinished structure for personal reasons when the infant was noticed. The discovery prompted the resident to raise an alarm, leading to the swift response of vigilantes in the vicinity.
Following the vigilantes' involvement, the police were notified. Officers arrived at the scene and took custody of the baby, transferring the infant to the Social Welfare Department.
Mrs. Lami Ayuba, an official from the council's Social Welfare Department, confirmed the incident. She stated that the child has been moved to an orphanage in Gwako for appropriate care and that efforts are underway to locate the baby's mother.
A police source from the Gwagwalada Division, speaking on condition of anonymity, also verified the event and indicated that an investigation is in progress to ascertain the circumstances and identify any individuals responsible.
