Following the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced they've initiated multiple strikes targeting US and Israeli positions. This information was made public on Sunday by the IRGC.
According to the Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, the strikes have affected 27 US military bases as well as Israel’s army headquarters and an arms factory in Tel Aviv.
However, independent verification of these claims remains unavailable.
Earlier on the same day, the IRGC confirmed its intention to seek vengeance for Khamenei's death.
In a statement attributed to the elite force and disseminated through Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia, they declared, “The assassins of the Imam of the nation will face urgent, definitive, and deterrent consequences.”
Meanwhile, as fears of further conflict escalated, Israel faced multiple alerts for rocket launches early on Sunday, prompting military responses.
In light of the IRGC’s threats, US President Donald Trump warned Iran against conducting further strikes in response to comprehensive attacks carried out by the United States and Israel.
“Iran has just declared they will retaliate with unprecedented force today,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT.” He further warned that if Iran does retaliate, the United States will respond with “a force that has never been seen before.”
The attacks carried out on Saturday targeted crucial meetings of Iranian leadership, resulting in the deaths of prominent figures including Khamenei, the Iranian Defence Minister, and the head of the IRGC, according to Israeli military reports.
The assault reportedly resulted in casualties exceeding 200, as logged by the Red Crescent, which incited further retaliatory actions against both Israeli and US military forces located in the Middle East.
