The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service successfully prevented an individual from throwing suspected Indian hemp over the perimeter wall of the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kurmawa. Operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Kano State successfully thwarted a plot to smuggle illicit narcotics into the Medium Security Custodial Centre located in Kurmawa. The interception occurred on a Sunday afternoon when a 40-year-old male suspect attempted to hurl packages believed to be Indian hemp across the facility's security barriers.

Prompt action by the facility's Armed Squad Unit, operating under the command of CSC Usman M. Sale, led to the immediate arrest of the individual, who is a resident of January Quarters within Kano.

What measures are in place to secure custodial facilities?

The Controller of Corrections for the Kano State Command, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, commended the personnel involved for their alertness and professional conduct in safeguarding the correctional institution. He emphasized that the command maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding the introduction of contraband into detention centers and warned members of the public against engaging in illegal activities around correctional properties.

Following the apprehension, the suspect was transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for comprehensive interrogation and subsequent legal proceedings.
