The government of Kano State has successfully brought together a boy named Musa, who had been missing for 10 years, with his birth parents.
The heartfelt handover ceremony took place on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Children and Persons with Special Needs, under the supervision of Commissioner Hajiya Amina Abdullahi Sani.
As per a statement released by Bintu Nuhu Yakasai, the Ministry's Director of Public Enlightenment, the reunion was the culmination of a meticulous and well-organized effort that involved consultations with local traditional authorities, the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, and the foster family who had cared for Musa during his absence.
The statement indicated, "The Ministry ensured that exhaustive investigations and verification processes were scrupulously conducted to authenticate the child’s identity and guarantee adherence to proper procedures prior to the reunion."
Musa, originally from Gwagwalada, was accompanied by Ministry officials and representatives from Dawakin Tofa Local Government, where he had been living in Dawanau, back to his hometown.
This reunion marks the conclusion of a decade-long separation and highlights the government's dedication to child safeguarding, familial tracing, and the provision of social welfare services.
The biological parents of Musa, along with other close family members, were in attendance at the ceremonial handover to formally welcome him home.
During the event, the Commissioner underlined the critical nature of parental vigilance and accountability, urging parents, particularly mothers and caregivers, to remain alert and prioritize their children's safety and well- being.
She warned against carelessness and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting children’s rights and welfare across the state.
The Commissioner also mentioned that the Ministry would conduct regular follow-up visits to assess Musa’s well-being and ensure he acclimatizes to his new home in a secure and nurturing environment.
This initiative forms part of the Ministry’s standard child protection protocols aimed at ensuring sustainable reintegration and ongoing support.
In appreciation of the foster mother's role during Musa’s time away from his biological parents, the Ministry recognized her contributions with an empowerment package as a token of gratitude for her cooperation and assistance throughout the process.
