The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has announced plans to enroll one million vulnerable individuals in the state under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

This initiative aims to enhance access to vital healthcare services and improve financial risk protection for underserved and indigent communities throughout Kano.

The decision was made during a meeting held on Monday in Kano, which involved senior technical officials and stakeholders who discussed operational frameworks, targeting of beneficiaries, data harmonization, and implementation plans.

KSCHMA's Executive Secretary, Rahila Muktar, characterized this program as a crucial advancement toward achieving Universal Health Coverage in Kano.

Muktar stated that enrolling one million at-risk residents signifies a pivotal progress towards universal health coverage, emphasizing the agency’s dedication to maintaining transparency, accountability, and data integrity throughout the implementation process.

She further noted that this initiative aligns with the current administration's health reform agenda and is expected to significantly lower out-of-pocket health costs for vulnerable groups.

Adamu Abdullahi, the NHIA State Coordinator, assured participants that the NHIA stands ready to offer regulatory guidance and technical support to ensure conformity with national standards. Abdullahi highlighted that a sustained partnership between federal and state agencies is essential for fortifying healthcare financing reforms and achieving tangible health outcomes.

He mentioned that the agencies have agreed to confirm beneficiary validation with the National Social Register and utilize harmonized digital enrollment tools. Additionally, refresher training will be conducted for field registration officers, accompanied by a comprehensive monitoring framework and awareness campaigns across the state to encourage participation.
